Vallmajor eqüestre is a rural house located 2 km. from the town centre of Montagut, in the Area of Natural Interest of the Alta Garrotxa, in the Catalan province of Girona.
At present the house is open for rural tourism and is classified as a residential country house.
The house is a large, isolated farm mansion or masia surrounded by fields and woods, and is mentioned in documents dating back to the 9th century. After more than fifty years of abandonment the house was totally restored in 2002, respecting its traditional structure to offer comfortable accommodation to guests and inhabitants alike.
Apart from the house itself there are other annex buildings next to the masia; the hay barn with its yard in front, the stables, and another building with a tack room and two stalls which are used as a horse clinic when necessary.
Vallmajor eqüestre is totally surrounded by fields and woods. The native plant life is oak and Spanish oak, although pines and many other varieties of trees and shrubs can be found. The fields are where the horses live. The hill behind the house is an ideal place to rest and observe nature. From here there is a pleasant walk through the wood to the river of El Torrent de L'Estanyol and the waterfall of El Salt de Vallmajor.
Vallmajor eqüestre has 6 rooms for guests, of which 2 may be used as triple rooms, and the rest as double rooms, all have central heating and private bathrooms. The rooms are spacious and welcoming with comfortable beds for a good night's rest.
A pleasant open air terrace is available for guest use, with fine views; there is also a hall on the upper floor, a spacious dining room and a living room with fireplace, an ideal space for reading, conversation, and board games and so on.
Accommodation is on half board, (dinner, accommodation and breakfast).
We don't serve lunch and we don't accept food in the rooms.
Drinks and extras are not included in the half board price.
We have available a complete list of drinks for any moment of the day, in which we offer soft drinks, wines and cava, appetizers, alcoholic beverages, coffee, tea, and herbal teas, as well as something to nibble, or our traditional bread with tomato with the region's famous pork products, all at highly reasonable prices.
Our cuisine is based on traditional dishes and recipes taken from Catalan and Mediterranean cuisine, with some hints at modern tastes, while respecting seasonal produce.
Often, the products we use for cooking are produced in our own ecological gardens.

Our desserts are taken from our own recipes most of the time. Here are some examples:
To round off a good dinner we always keep the traditional liquor of the Garrotxa, ratafia, in stock; this drink is made following traditional methods using secret recipes in the masies of the area, for home consumption. The drink is a sweet digestive liquor with a medium grade alcohol content, made from a brandy with several aromatic plants and its main ingredient, unripe green walnuts, all of which are left to macerate in the sun for time to do its work, as the popular saying here goes.
Our breakfasts are full in every sense of the word, with a wide range of products, both sweet and savoury.
After breakfast we guarantee that you will have more than enough energy reserves to start the day afresh.
